Chantilly-Tiffany Cat Breed History, Appearance, character, Health & more

Chantilly-Tiffany, also called Chantilly or Tiffany, is considered the "supermodel" among cats, although, of course, every cat is beautiful in its indescribable way. Sometimes this cat breed is mistakenly called Tiffanie cat. However, this can be somewhat misleading, because it is by no means identical to the Tiffanie cat bred in Great Britain. Because of her chocolate-colored coat, it is often said that the Chantilly cat is the cat for chocolate fans. Their coat color is even compared in cat connoisseur circles to the special coloring of a chocolate bar made by a certain American manufacturer.

Chantilly-Tiffany History

The origin of the Chantilly Tiffany is a bit of a mystery in itself, just like the cat itself. One can only speculate about how exactly it may have originated. According to some sources, the Chantilly cat descends from the Burmese or Persian cat, others speculate that it is a mixture of the long-haired Abyssinian and the short-haired brown Havana. Still, others speak of a cross between the Angora, Somali, and Havana cats. In all probability, it consists of four equal proportions of the Havana Brown, the Nebelung, the Abyssinian, and the Somali. The only certain thing is that she is not a long-haired Burmese, which is also sometimes claimed. This rumor goes back to the fact that a breeder of the Chantilly-Tiffany cat also bred Burmese. However, the little kittens did not show any signs of Burmese kittens - in this respect, it is surprising how this misbelief could spread.

The Chantilly cat was bred for the first time in 1969, or rather, this is when the first breeding successes are said to have occurred. However, the Chantilly-Tiffany probably existed before that. Until 1967 it was believed that the Chantilly cat was extinct. The Chantilly-Tiffany was considered a cat for the distinguished circles. In its nature is still reflected today that it moved in its beginnings mainly in exclusive circles. For cats of this breed are proud, demanding, and sometimes appear majestic in their appearance and as aristocratic as Disney's Aristocats.

According to tradition, the history of the Chantilly-Tiffany began with a pair of cats of unknown origin, characterized by golden eyes and long chocolate-colored fur. A New York breeder named Jennie Robinson had acquired the pair as part of land purchase in 1967. Cat "Thomas" was a little over a year old at the time, and cat "Shirley" was at least six months younger. It is believed that the two came from two different litters from the same parents. In May 1969, Shirley had her first offspring from tomcat Thomas. Because all the kittens had the same chocolate brown coat, it was decided to continue breeding the cats. In the early 1970s, the cats from this line were registered by the American association ACA under the designation "Foreign Longhair". However, this designation was later discontinued because breeders did not find the designation to be accurate.

A breeder named Tracy Oraas continued to breed the Chantilly cat until the beginning of the 21st century but then disappeared from the breeder scene for unknown reasons. By 2001, there were only a very small number of breeders left. One breeder was located in Germany at that time, one in Canada, and few others existed in the USA.

Finally, in 2003, there was only one Chantilly-Tiffany breeding in the USA. It was owned by a dedicated breeder named Anne Davenport-Parini and was named "Amorino Cattery." Ms. Davenport-Parini was the last known Chantilly-Tiffany breeder in the USA. Her male named Nugget, who was also called Little Tabby Dude and LTD respectively, produced many beautiful Chantilly-Tiffany kittens before he was finally "retired."

Chantilly-Tiffany Appearance

The Chantilly-Tiffany belongs to the semi-longhair cats. Their coat is very silky and at the same time dense and bushy. The texture of the coat makes up a large part of their uniqueness. The undercoat is very moderate in this cat breed. The most represented coat color is said chocolate brown. Also, the coat of the first cats of this breed had this coloring. Later other coat colors like lilac/lavender, blue, red, beige, and cinnamon brown were added. All coat colors occur both in the solid color version and in a special tabby version - but not a classic tabby, as it is generally known. Due to the Rufus gene, the chocolate brown coat has a very slight red tinge.

The Chantilly Tiffany cat is medium in size and has a well-proportioned muscular build. The body of this cat breed measures 40 to 50 centimeters. It weighs four to six kilograms. The weight varies somewhat with the sex of the cat. The ears of the Chantilly cat are rounded at the tips, and the fur forms tufts there. The tail is long and bushy. The kittens are already born with dark fur. Their paw pads are pink. The Chantilly-Tiffany resembles somewhat the German Longhair, German Angora, or the Persian of the old type.

The eyes of the Chantilly cat are oval-shaped and green. However, in the sense of the breed standards, a golden or yellow, or amber tone with a green halo effect is aimed for. With age, the color of the eyes intensifies, showing once again that beauty can increase with cat age. By the way, this is said not only about the eyes of the Chantilly Tiffany but in relation to its overall appearance.

Chantilly Tiffany Character

First of all, it should be said that cats of one breed are always attributed a set of traits, but each cat is, of course, an individual and may exhibit traits that another cat of the same breed does not.

The Chantilly Tiffany generally enjoys the reputation of being very loving and even caring, as well as trusting, friendly, balanced, gentle, loyal, and curious in a pleasant way. This explains why she is so popular with her human housemates. Cats of this breed usually choose one or two members of their family with whom they establish a particularly strong bond. It is also considered to have a strong intelligence. It is also related to this high mental activity that the Chantilly cat loves to play. Among other things, she appreciates interactive games together with her human roommate.

Their activity level is moderately developed, i.e. it moves in a pleasant middle range between liveliness and need for rest. The tendency is, however, somewhat more in the direction of action. Towards strangers, the Chantilly Tiffany tends to be reserved and reserved at first. Her jealousy may also play a role, for example, if she fears losing the undivided attention of her human roommates. After all, the Chantilly cat loves to receive attention. So much so, that it is recommended to keep a cat of this breed as a single cat so that no second cat can compete with it. Otherwise, in fact, it may be prone to jealousy.

So, if you are thinking of getting a Chantilly Tiffany cat, you should first ask yourself in detail whether your lifestyle is compatible with the needs of such a domestic tiger or tigress. It is important that you have enough time every day to devote to your beloved pet in the form of play and petting. The Chantilly cat will be happy if you keep her happy with cat toys such as a catfishing rod or similar. You can also challenge their intelligence by putting intelligence toys to work. Your highly intelligent pet tiger or pet tigress will thank you for it. By the way, she likes to communicate vocally and appreciates it when her human answers her. Her language is different from other cats: She expresses herself in a soft melodic "chirp".

Chantilly-Tiffany Health and care

The Chantilly Tiffany is a bit more time-consuming to groom because of her longer and bushy coat, but again, not as time-consuming as one might think. It is also a pleasure for her owner to lovingly devote himself to the grooming of his roommate's pussy, because he is doing something good for her.

An important rule is that you should always radiate calmness when dealing with your cat, for example, when grooming its coat. Because your calmness is transmitted directly to your beloved pet tiger or your beloved pet tigress. And your cat's calmness is transmitted back to you. It is recommended to groom your Chantilly cat with a cat brush every day if possible. Not least because this additionally strengthens the bond between man and kitty. It also removes dead hair - which would otherwise be visible on your carpet or sofa. In addition, the beautiful coat is thus protected from becoming matted or knotted and simply remains no longer maintained in appearance. Finally, the good texture of the coat underlines the reputation of the Chantilly-Tiffany to be the supermodel among pedigree cats.

An important note for allergy sufferers: for cat hair allergy sufferers with only moderate discomfort, this cat breed can be recommended because it does not shed hair too much.

Regarding dental hygiene, it is advisable that you clean your beloved roommate kitty's little teeth ideally every day. This reduces the risk of periodontitis. However, it may also be sufficient if you brush her teeth once a week. In individual cases, this should be discussed with your veterinarian.

The beautiful eyes of the Chantilly cat should be cleaned very carefully at the edges with a soft damp cloth or a cotton cloth. Please make sure that you use a different part of the cloth for each eye, so as not to spread a possible source of infection from one eye to the other.

The ears also need to be cleaned regularly. For this, you can also use a soft damp cloth or a simple cotton cloth. In no case should you use cotton swabs or the like, because you run the risk of penetrating too far into the ear canal of the cat? Moreover, dirt could penetrate even further into the ear canal this way, and after all, that's exactly what you don't want. You can usually get the ears clean by simply wiping them out gently from the inside out. Of course, the fabric should not be too wet, so that water does not get into the ears of your beloved roommate kitty. But if you are mindful, this should work out very well.

Chantilly Tiffany cat diet

When feeding, it should be noted that it must always be tailored to the cat breed, respectively to the individual cat. It must correspond to the age and nutritional status. For example, overweight cats need special diet food. Health problems, such as diabetes or kidney problems, also influence your cat's diet and should definitely be taken into account when choosing food.

Whether dry or wet food: Cats should always get high-quality cat food that covers their need for essential vitamins and minerals. Only in this way can they remain healthy in the long term - provided that all other important aspects for maintaining health are also fulfilled. A good quality diet also has an additional positive effect on mental well-being.

You have the choice between several feeding methods. Popular are self-cooking and BARF (Biologically species-appropriate raw feeding). However, you should make sure to inform yourself extensively about the respective method and the nutrient requirements of your cat in order to prevent possible deficiency symptoms.

The Chantilly Tiffany cat is considered to be near extinction at the moment.

The very few remaining breeders of the Chantilly cat, of which there are a few, but very strongly committed, in the USA, are fighting passionately and relentlessly for the continued existence of this cat breed. They hope to receive support from breeders of the breeds that gave rise to the Chantilly Tiffany cat. They also have the goal, if possible, to finally clarify the mystery surrounding the exact origin of the Chantilly-Tiffany.

If you should have decided to contribute to the continuity of this cat breed, a first step could be to find out the contact addresses of the breeders via social media or specific (American) cat magazines and get in touch with them. In principle, it is also possible to bring a pedigreed cat from the USA to your home, provided that the regulations are observed.

Otherwise, an alternative is to warm up to one of the other wonderful cat breeds related to the Chantilly cat. Also, among the very numerous feline furry creatures waiting for a new home in animal shelters, there may be the cat that is meant for you - and who will be delighted with anything if you offer her a wonderful new home.
